So, You Want to be Like Christ? Intimacy

When those who are called to fish don’t fish, they fight, they stress, they have anxiety! But, when those who are called to fish, they flourish!

A “godly” person is one who ceases to be self-centered to become God-centered. Jesus is our unblemished example of godliness. So, a godly person is a Christ-like person. Our goal as Christians is to become like Christ, not perfect but on the path.

We face many of the same problems today. It’s so easy to get

  1. Religious instead of Godly. We attend but we’re not changed.
  2. Pious instead of Spiritual. We talk about God without knowing God.
  3. Height instead of depth. We join but never fully participate.

Chuck Swindol points out eight disciplines that will help us improve and become more like Christ.

  1. Intimacy: Deepening our lives
  2. Simplicity: Uncluttering our minds.
  3. Silence and Solitude: Slowing our pace.
  4. Surrender: Releasing our Grip
  5. Prayer: Calling out.
  6. Humility: Bowing low.
  7. Self-Control: Holding back.
  8. Sacrifice: Giving over.

 Where do we begin?

Starts with me and my relationship with God.

Personal Invitation to others to join you on the journey.

Refuse to settle for mediocre in your spiritual and church life. Get involved.

Work to create genuine community of faith. More than programs… go deeper.

Be passionate about your faith, your church and your mission.

Be clearer about who you are. Work to define what you believe.

Don’t be afraid to experiment and take risks. This is where you see God in action.
