Be a Fool today!
1 Corinthians 4: 10 (ESV) - "We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute."
As I have shared before, I grew up in a family that constantly makes games out of just about anything (a ball, a stick, a rope), and my parents were so carefree that they sought to make everything fun, even at the embarrassment of their children! Though I may at times wanted to hide at such times, when I look back, I am so grateful that I was raised with a little bit of foolishness, and there are times when I can make quite a fool of myself. Just ask my wife.
Today is April Fool's Day, a tradition of playing harmless pranks on others, which reaches all the way back to 1392 chronicled in Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales. It is a day of fun, and it gives us each a chance to be a bit foolish and spread some joy to others.
Paul speaks of being a fool for Christ, a reference to the way the world so often sees Christ followers. We who believe in Resurrection, who speak of body and blood, and who love despite what the illogical nature of such love from a worldly perspective. This love of Christ invites us to move out of our shells, take a bold risk, and have some fun so the world might experience the foolish love of God.
Today, how might you be a fool for Christ? Who might you go out of your way to share some fun and bring some joy to? Take the risk. Have some fun. Be a fool for Christ today!
