Pastor information

Pastor Tim (He/Him) grew up in Northern Virginia and Richmond, and though reluctant to go into pastoral ministry, is a fifth-generation pastor in The United Methodist Church. He earned a BA in Psychology from Duke University in 1990, then in between college and graduate school Pastor Tim worked for 18 months at United Methodist Family Services as a counselor.
On Pentecost Sunday of 1992 at River Road UMC, God “called” him in a rather dramatic way, and this led him back to Durham, NC, to complete his Master of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School in 1995.
In 1994 Pastor Tim married Teresa, a farm girl from North Carolina. Teresa is a high school nurse, and worked previously in cardiology, family practice, and pediatric offices.

Upon graduation from graduate school, Pastor Tim was appointed Associate/ Co-Pastor of Centreville UMC in Centreville, VA. During those years his wife, Teresa, gave birth to their son, Caleb (1997), and then Joan (2000). In July 2003, Tim was appointed to Wellspring UMC in Williamsburg, where their daughter, Anna (2004) was born. He was appointed to serve Bonsack UMC in Roanoke in July 2008, and in July 2016 was assigned to serve Warrenton UMC.  In June 2023, he moved to Fredericksburg and has serve here since then.

Tim’s passions for ministry are found in preaching, worship leadership, visioning, leadership, and missions to/in the community. Having been “raised as a pastor” under a “copastoral” model, Tim’s style of leadership is best defined as collaborative in nature.
Whether it is with pastors, staff, church leaders, or congregational members, serving, planning, and living
out our baptismal vows together is central to Pastor Tim’s leadership style. From his perspective, the Spirit works most effectively when the Body of Christ shares the journey together. Trained in Gallup Strengthsfinder as a lay coach and having used Gallup Strengths for
over a decade, Pastor Tim seeks to live into his strengths of: Winning Others Over, Adaptability, Connectivity, Positivity, and Ideation, which translate into God-given talents and desires to connect people with one another, the Gospel, and Jesus Christ. He enjoys focusing his creative energy through working with technology and uses technology as a tool for witnessing Christ’s
love to the world. In his spare time, he enjoys music, running, hiking, the gym, prayer/devotions, reading,
social media connections, and exploring the environment and community in which he lives. In
addition to their children, Teresa and Tim also have three furry canine children, Summit, Mesa,
and Moses.
