    SHARE A SMILE – March 21, 2025 1st Day of Spring

Proverbs 15:3 -The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.

How many times do we walk down a street or into a business/ building and not see someone’s eyes? Often, I am sure, as we all are focused more on our cellphones (hand-held computers) that are a distraction in many ways. When walking the Spotsy Mall, or even the streets of Fredericksburg I am always looking for people’s “smiling eyes!”  Have you noticed when someone says "Hello", and you see their entire face and a greeting back makes them SMILE!

God calls us to love our neighbors and this means looking folks in their eyes and THEN, if time allows learning their story.  With our street homeless this practice has become a habit.  We learn their story which is the second step in building a relationship.  It is even more fun when they ask us to share our story…how we got to helping at MICAH, or in our church, or as teachers/coaches in Spotsylvania County.  My dentist used to have a sign on the ceiling tile of his office saying “A SMILE IS THE CLOSEST THING BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE.” This always made me smile right before he started the drill as I was lying in his chair! This is so true and a smile can change the moment or make someone’s day.  Smiling eyes show the Spirit and loving heart that makes us Christians.  Share your smile with a stranger and let God do the rest!
