Be Present – April 4, 2025

Matthew 19:14 - Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

It’s Friday afternoon, and I find myself on my beloved southbound Virginia Railway Express Train # 309, headed home on the last commute of a long week. As the miles tick along, I get more and more anticipatory of seeing my family, and my mind slowly lets go of work. I can somewhat compare my commute to our journey through Lent, as we anticipate the glory of Easter morning.

At the end of my commute awaits my awesome wife and the apples of my eye, my twin boys. At nine years of age, they are full of life, laughter, and an occasional gross science experiment. From Bach to beetles, they are exploring God’s world, and I get to go along for the ride! My weekend is here, and I plan to make the most of it, present with them through a Saturday of activities and exploration, and a Sunday of praising God, Sunday School, and enjoying the Sabbath. Soon it will be Monday. Soon they’ll be adults. Savor the time. Be present.
