John 12:24 -Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.

As many of my friends know, I am passionate about growing DAHLIAS. When visiting some friends of my parents living in Rockville MD. in 2007, I noticed these beautiful flowers in their yard. Asking what they were I soon was captivated with growing my own. Since that time, I spend more time tending to and sharing my Dahlias than I spend on the golf course…another passion!  The joy I find in growing them is that no two are alike.  The are all unique and have their own sense of beauty, size and shape. In any arrangement they complement each other, especially when you mix and match color.  Being able to share the flower arrangements in the late summer/early fall with church members, doctor’s offices, “lady friends or girlfriends,” Diane, local businesses, people who need a pick me up, or even on a Princess Anne Street corner is very gratifying and fulfilling. After they die, each single plant or TUBER grows into a cluster beyond belief, thus multiplying the number to grow next year. Also, dying flowers produce buds with a bunch of seeds which can be saved and planted the following year and grow a NEW VARIETY…as the bees fertilize and carry pollen from plant to plant.

The fruit of my labor is truly the joy of sharing them with everyone. The hard work from May-November is more than worth it, if someone enjoys their beauty and warms their hearts.  God calls us to plant seeds and he will provide the fertilizer through the Holy Spirit.  I am just a gardener doing his work in our world, and I am energized to share that Love always… I wish I could grow and share 12 months a year!!
