The Family Legacy

William James said, “The great use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it.” Today’s sermon asks you to think about your legacy, no matter your age. What are you sharing, leaving behind, teaching those that will be here when you are not...? If you would not be here tomorrow, or next week, or next year, what would be the most important marks left of your life? These are hard questions. Our life in Christ, however, calls us to certain marks that reveal our connection in God’s family. Our text today says that all creation waits for the revealing of the children of God. How then is God calling you to your true identity in Christ?

As we close this series on our resemblance to Christ and one another in a great holy family, take some time in prayer and reflection this week to search the scriptures. If you need some guiding thoughts, try searching for a scriptural, holy person that you are drawn to. How are you like that biblical person, or perhaps not like them? What is similar or not similar in that person and Jesus? What similarity do you (honestly) see between Jesus and yourself?  Take some notes. Reflect and pray for God’s guidance and shaping you toward a Godly image in Christ.

Peterson’s work is based on the prophet Jeremiah who strives to be faithful, in the midst of challenging and chaotic times. Peterson’s work is very relevant, inspiring and challenging for a person seeking a deeper faith in today’s world.

As this worship series ends, what are your takeaway inspirations (or challenges)? (Note them for further discernment.)
